The Central Environmental Authority conducts many environment programs for the school students with the support of the Ministry of Education since 1984.
Accordingly, the Central Environmental Authority, Ministry of Education and National Institute of Education collaboratively prepared a program call “Green Leader” to conduct in National College of Education. The main objective of this program was to give a broader knowledge on environment protection and conservation for the training teachers and actively conduct environment programs in the schools. The Central Environmental Authority plan to conduct this program in all National Colleges of Education.
The inauguration program was held on 26th of March 2024, under the patronage of Hon. Susil Premajayantha, Minister of Education and Hon. Janaka Wakkubura, State Minister of Provincial Councils, Local Government and Environment at the Auditorium, National Institute of Education. Mr. Venura Fernando, Chairman and Mr. Hemantha Jayasinghe, Director General of the CEA, Deans of National Colleges of Education, Lectures, senior officers of the CEA and training teachers participated at the event.
The World Wetlands Day national program held on February 2nd and 3rd , 2024, at Diyasaru Park in Thalawathugoda was successfully completed, comprising three sessions. The inauguration session, occurring on February 2nd , 2024, hosted esteemed guests including the Minister of Urban Development and Housing, secretaries, representatives from the embassies of India, Iran, and the UK, as well as heads of various government institutions and stakeholder agencies. The wetland festival featured 17 stalls with participation from government and non-government organizations, private partners, and stakeholders who worked with wetland related conservation activies, engaging over 2000 participants through activities like field sketching sessions, wildlife photography, and guided tours etc.. The Wetland Evening, the third session, saw around 200 invitees, including former Deputy Directors-General (DDGs) of the Central Environmental Authority (CEA), convene for a cultural review, likely centered around wetlands-related songs. Generous sponsorship from five sponsors significantly contributed to the program's success, highlighting the importance of wetlands and fostering awareness within the community.
In conjunction with the celebrations of the New Year 2024, a special ceremony was organized by CEA to recognize employees who have marked over 20, 25 and 30 years of service to the Authority.
The ceremony was held on 1stof January 2024, graced with the presence of Mr. Venura Fernando, Chairman and Mr. HemanthaJayasinghe, Director General of the CEA.
The employees who have completed 20 years, 25 years and 30 years of service were awarded bronze, silver and gold medals respectively.
Senior staff of the authority, officers from regional office and staff of the authority participated in this occasion. The program was organized by the Human Resource Development Unit of the CEA.
To mark the commencement of the New Year 2024, the Central Environmental Authority organized a function on the 1st of January 2024 at the Head Office premises.
To give a blissful wish to all the staff members a pirith chanting ceremony was arranged. Afterwards, staff members participated in the official ceremony to start their work.
Mr. Venura Fernando, Chairman, CEA, Mr. HemanthaJayasinghe, Director General, CEA, Deputy Director Generals, Directors and staff members of the CEA Head Office participated for the program.
The Central Environmental Authority organized the 16th Environment Pioneer National Camp from 20th to 23rd December, 2023 at the National Institute of Education (NIE),Maharagama under the National Environmental Pioneer Program which has been implemented in the school system of Sri Lanka in collaboration with Ministry of Education.
Nearly 300 participants including environmentalists, Environmental Pioneers, teachers participated in this national camp. The opening ceremony of the National Camp was held on 21st December at 8.30 am under the patronage of Mr. Venura Fernando, Chairman, Central Environment Authority, Mr. HemanthaJayasinghe,Director General, Central Environment Authority and Prof. Prasad Sethunga, Director General, National Institute of Education. Moreover, Additional Secretaries of Ministry of Environment, Deputy Director Generals of the Central Environmental Authority, Mr. RanjithPadmasiri DDG, NIE, officials of other government and private sector organizations and media personnel were participated in this event.
211 Environmental Pioneers who won gold medals from 61 schools in 16 districts of 8 provinces who displayed special talents in this event.Innovation exhibition, environmental pioneers' cultural event, practical activity on handicrafts and many activities including environmental field trips held for the environmental pioneers at the Environmental Pioneer National Camp. Environmental pioneers took part in this four-day workshop with the common goal of protecting the environment as the primary focus.
