Commencement of Work – 2026 | Central Environmental Authority

The Inaugural Session marking the commencement of work for the year 2026 was held on 01-01-2026 with the participation of Chairman Prof. Tilak Hewawasam, Director General Mr. R. S. P. K. Rajapaksha, Deputy Director Generals, Directors and staff members of the CEA Head Office.


The programme included a two-minutes remembrance, national flag and environmental flag hoisting, and the administration of the Government Officers’ Oath for 2026, followed by religious blessings.


An award ceremony was organized by HRD Unit also held to honor staff members who have completed 20 and 25 years of dedicated service at the CEA, appreciating their unwavering commitment to the institution.
In a spirit of solidarity, the Southern Provincial Office Welfare Society donated the remaining portion of the funds collected for Ditwa Cyclone relief to the Government Relief Fund.


Regional offices of Central Environmental Authority joined this event via online platform.
The Chairman and Director General addressed the gathering, sharing their wishes and outlining plans and priorities of CEA for the year 2026. We wish everyone a happy, purposeful, and successful year, as we move forward together towards environmental excellence.

Annual Presidential Environment Awards 2025

The 11th Annual Presidential Environment Awards 2025, organized by the Central Environmental Authority (CEA), was held on 23rd October 2025 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) under the distinguished patronage of Honourable Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

This prestigious national event aims to recognize and honour individuals and institutions covering different segments that demonstrate exceptional commitment to environmental sustainability, going beyond conventional practices to champion environmental conservation and protection in pursuit of sustainable development.

Hon. Dr. Dhammika Patabendi, MP, Minister of Environment, Hon. Sunil Handunneththi, MP, Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Hon. Mr. Anton Jayakody, Deputy Minister of Environment, Mr. K. R. Uduwawala, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, and several other distinguished guests participated the ceremony.

The event was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Tilak Hewawasam, Chairman, and Mr. R. S. P. Kapila Rajapaksha, Director General of the Central Environmental Authority.

More than 1,000 participants attended this grand occasion, including senior management from institutions under the Ministry of Environment, academics, professionals in environment, industrialists, government officials, schools, hospitals, private sector representatives, and other invited dignitaries.

A total of 132 award winners were recognized across diverse sectors such as industry, education, government and private institutions, NGOs, innovation, renewable energy projects, media, and social media, celebrating their outstanding contributions towards a greener Sri Lanka.

The evening was further enriched by a captivating dance performance by the Chandana Wickramasinghe Dancing Academy, which added elegance and cultural vibrancy to this memorable event.

Central Environmental Authority joins “GovPay Government Digital Transaction System

The agreement between the Central Environmental Authority and LankaPay (Pvt) Ltd., regarding the “GovPay Government Digital Payment System” was signed on 26th September 2026 at the Central Environmental Authority, officially launching the system.


Accordingly, from 26th September 2025 onwards, all payments related to the services provided by the Central Environmental Authority—such as Inspection Fees, License Fees, Processing Fees, Basel Export Consent Fees, Certificate Fees, Administration Fees, Registration Fees, Annual Fees, Laboratory Fees, Waste Disposal Fees, Procurement Fees, National Environmental Information Centre (NEIC) Fees, and Examination Fees—can be made through the “GovPay Government Digital Payment System” via 14 partner banks and 06 FinTech applications.


The special occasion of officially inaugurating this digital payment system was attended by Mr. K. R. Uduwawala, Secretary to the Ministry of Environment, Prof. Tilak Hewawasam, Chairman of the Central Environmental Authority, Mr. Kapila Mahesh Rajapaksha, Director General of the Central Environmental Authority, officials from the Authority, Mr. Channa de Silva, Chief Executive Officer of LankaPay (Pvt) Ltd, officials from LankaPay, as well as Mr. Udaya Kasthurirathna, Program Manager of Digital Government and Digital Economy at the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka, together with other officials.
