  • Importance
•A highly sensitive riparian ecosystem which includes both the widest and the narrowest places of the Mahaweli River with a bunch of attractive islands within the widest place.
•There is high bio diversity level in the area. It’s a habitat for rare and threatened flora and fauna species.
•SeemaMalakaya of UdarataAmarapuraNikaya is located there.
•The area is important from the archeological as well as cultural points of view. There is an ancient sluice more than 100 year old.
•A source of medicinal plants for indigenous medicine.
•A site for field studies for researchers and Universities.
•A water source for the local community.
•An attractive specific landscape with cool micro climatic conditions for tourists and artists.
•A good resting area for the general public.
