Competition Categories

Applications are now being accepted for the "Presidential Environment Awards - 2026." Applications can be submitted under three main sectors: "Industry Sector," "Projects Sector," and "Institutions, Media and Social Sector."

The "Industry Sector" consists of two sub-sectors: "Large Scale" and "Small & Medium Scale." Under the "Large Scale", applications can be submitted for 16 categories mentioned below. For the "Small & Medium Scale", applications can be submitted under 14 categories excluding "Hospitals" and "Packaging Industries with printing:

• Common waste treatment and management facilities/ Waste recovery/ Recycling/ Disposal or processing

• Chemical industries plants

• Vehicle servicing centers

• Food and beverage manufacturing industries

• Hotels

• Textile processing industries

• Pharmaceutical products and personal care products manufacturing industries

• Hospitals

• Rubber-based products manufacturing industries

• Animal farms

• Apperal industries

• Tea processing industries or Tea factories

• Packaging industries with printing

• Mineral related industries

• Timber and wood related manufacturing industries

• Metal/ Non-ferrous metal/ Machinery/ Electronic/ Electrical goods and equipment related industries 

Application For the Industry Sector - Large Scale 

 Application For the Industry Sector - Small & Medium Scale 

 The "Projects category" consists of one sub- category and three categories:

• "Mini Hydro Projects", "Solar Power Projects" (excluding rooftop solar power projects), and "Wind Power Projects."

The "Institutions, Media & Social category" evaluates six sub- categories:

• Schools

• Government Institutions

• Private sector Institutions

• Local Authorities (Solid Waste Management)

• Police Environmental Units ( Sinhala , Tamil , English )

• Non-Governmental Environmental Organizations (NGOs)

• Environment friendly Innovations (Schools / Universities & Tertiary / Open category)

• The "Media Sector" comprises two sub-sectors: "Mass Media" and "Social Media." (The Mass Media sub-sector consists of two categories: "Individual" and "Institutional," while the social media sub-sector consists of two categories: "Facebook Page" and "YouTube Channel." Evaluation will be conducted by considering all language media together.)
