Hon. S M Chandrasena, Minister of Environment, Wildlife, Lands and Land Development visited the Central Environmental Authority today (26th ) morning.
After the commencement of his duties as the new Cabinet Minister, Hon. Minister has taken steps to visit the institutions belong to his Ministry.
Hon. Minister was welcome by the Mr. Isura Devapriya, Chairman, CEA, former Chief Minister of the Western Province and Mr. P B Hemantha Jayasinghe, Director General, CEA.
Addressing the senior officials, the new Minister stated that the President has expressed his commitment to achieving sustainable development based on environmental conservation, and all of us should cooperate to fulfill the vision. Popularizing of eco- friendly products instead of plastic/ polythene and immediate action on air pollution were the some of the other topics that he stressed on. After a brief review of the scope and functions of the Central Environmental Authority, the Hon. Minister requested senior officials to submit a report on environmental protection programs that could be implemented within the next three months.
