Workshop on ‘Engaging and Empowering Economic Development Officers (EDOs) to Conserve and Manage the Kelani River Basin for Water Health and Other Uncertainties’ held on 25th April 2019 from 9.00 am- 3.30 pm at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment. EDO’s and Environmental Officers of the CEA from the Divisional Secretariat Division of Colombo, Kaduwela, Homagama, Seethawake, Kolonnawa, Dompe, Biyagama, Wattala and Kelaniya were participated at the above workshop.
This workshop was organized by the Central Environmental Authority with the participation of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA), Irrigation Department (ID), National Water Supply &Drainage Board (NWS&DB), Coast Conservation and Coastal Resources Management Department (CC&CRMD) and Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment. This program was initiated by Hon. Ajith Mannapperuma, the State Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment.
The objective of this workshop is to strengthen the capacity of the EDOs for obtaining their contribution towards the conservation and management of the Kelani River Basin under the goal of enhancing the water health and other uncertainties’. ‘A Guide to Conserve and Manage the Kelani River Basin’ was provided together with the project concept identification form to EDOs during the workshop. Project concept sheets should be filled by the EDOs for their respective GN Division and handed over to the respective Divisional Secretary within 2 weeks from the date of the workshop and it will be collected and analyzed and based on that project formulation and implementation mechanism will be initiated by IUCN.
This workshop is the initiation of Kelani River Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Project by the CEA.
