The CEA conducted a raid on banned lunch sheet manufacturing industry which is located in Hokandara in Hokandara Police area, jointly with the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) and Police special Unit of the CEA on 26th September 2018 Wednesday.
When the raid was conducted the industry was in operation and lunch sheets manufactured using HDPE materials and calcium were found in the adjacent stores. Four extruder machines, four cutting machines and mixtures were being used in the production process. It has been revealed that this industry has been granted an Environmental Protection License only for manufacturing LDPE shopping bags and grocery bags. Also, it was found the company submit their products to the market under different brand names violating provisions of the Consumer Affairs Act.
In addition to shopping bags and grocery bags it manufactures HDPE lunch sheets during the night and sell bulk stocks during daytime. This industry has violated the National Environmental Act since it manufactures HDPE lunch sheets in contrary with Regulation No. 2034/34 of 2017. 09.01. The CEA pursue legal action against the accused in the Kaduwela magistrate's Courts. The accused company has been engaged in the manufacturing lunch sheets even before the regulation came into force last September and continued this illegal business challenging the law. The production stock was arrested by the CAA, which is worth of nearly twelve lack rupees.
