In parallel to the Cop 28, as a concept of Hon. Minister of Environment, Engineer. Naseer Ahamed, it has been proposed to plant 28,000 Nelli saplings around Sri Lanka as climate change adaptation and mitigation method, to decrease carbon foot print and increase forest cover in Sri Lanka and to maintain a sustainable environment through uses, values, and attributes of trees.
Accordingly, the launching program of this project was held on 26th September 2023 at Royal College, Colombo 7 under the distinguished participation of His Excellencey Mared Mosleh Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Sri Lanka, Hon. Nazeer Ahamed, Minister of Environment.
Ven. Kotapola Amarakiththi Thero, Mr. Rashed Al Mazaroouei, Charge d’ Affairs, United Arad Emirates Embassy of Sri Lanka, Mr. Supun S Pathirage, Chairman of the Central Environmental Authority, Mr. Hemantha Jayasinghe, Director General of the CEA, Mr. Thilak Waththuhewa, Principal of the Royal College, Mr. Pubudu De Silva, Chief Executive Officer, Teejay Lanka PLC and other distinguish guest representing Central Environmental Authority and the Teejay Lanka PLC accompanied in the occasion.
Moreover, Prof. Sudheera Ranwala, Senior Lecture, Department of Plant Science, University of Colombo done an informative lecture for the students.
Nearly 200 students representing Royal College, Colombo -07 and other invited schools participated in this occasion.
With the sponsorship of Teejay Lanka PLC the program was conducted.
