“Surakimu Ganga” National Program on Conservation of Rivers in Sri Lanka

Under the leadership of the present government headed by H/E the President Gothabaya Rajapaksha and the Prime Minister Hon. Mahinda Rajapakshaand within the policy of the government, the “vistas of prosperity and splendour”, it is expected to provide water to all.
The ideal expectation of the Hon. Basil Rajapaksha, the Head of the Presidential Task Force for economic revival and poverty eradication, is to make rivers to the standard of enabling to provide drinking water to the people, under a systematic plan through cleaning all rivers and water sources of Sri Lanka and “make rivers to the standard of taking water from the river from both hands and drink.”His resoluteness is to implement this vision as a concept and to make it to the level of implementation and through that, to make this expectation of the government a reality.
In this regards the national program was held under the patronage of His Excellency the president Gotabaya Rajapaksa at 10.00 am on 22nd of March 2021 at the premises of the historic Ruhunu Kataragama sacred site on the banks of the Menik River.
The event was graced by the participation of Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Environment, Hon. Shashenda Rajapaksa, State Minister, Hon. A J M Muzammil, Governor of the Uva Province, Mr. Dishan Wickramarathne Gunasekara, Basnayake Nilame of Ruhunu Katharagama Maha Devala, Specialist Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Mr. S. Amarasinghe, Chairman, Central Environmental Authority, Mr. P B Hemantha Jayasinnghe, Director General Central Environmental Authority other Hon. Ministers, local political representatives and other distinguished guests.
In this event, Geological Information system website on “Surakimu Ganga” program was launched by the H/ E the President. Launching of the theme song of the program and launching of Sobaketha magazine was done parallel to this event.
The official handing over of the Electrical Multi Chopper to Divisional Secretary, Monaragala was done by Hon. President on this occasion.
The event was enchanted with the dancing performs of Channa Upuli Performing Art Foundation.
