The CEA conducted a raid on banned lunch sheet manufacturing industry, which is located in Meegoda in Homagama Police area, jointly with the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) and Police special Unit of the CEA on 25th January 2021, Monday.
When the raid was conducted the industry was in operation and lunch sheets were being manufactured using Linear low density polyethylene, high density polyethylene materials and calcium. An extruder machine (15Hp), a cutting machine (2Hp) and a mixture (2Hp) were being used for the production process. It has been revealed that this illegal industry does not possess any kind of approval, including the Environmental Protection License, Business Registration and Trade License. This industry has violated the National Environmental Act since there is no valid EPL and manufactures HDPE lunch sheets in contrary with Regulation No. 2034/34 of 2017 09.01. The CEA pursue legal action against the accused for these two charges in the Homagama Courts.
The production stock was seized (3MT) by the CAA, which is worth of nearly one million rupees. The accused was a lunch sheet trader who commenced this industry in last May within a premises rented out in Puwakwata Road, Meegoda and the illegal products are reported to be sold in Mathugama and Petttah.
