The World Wetland Day of this year was held ceremonially, under the theme “Wetlands and Biodiversity”,with the patronage of His Excellency Gotabhaya Rajapaksha the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, and with the participation of distinguished invitees including the Hon. S. M. Chandrasena, Minister of Lands, Land Development, Wildlife Resources and Environment, Hon. Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana, Minister of Information & Communications Technology, Higher Education, Technology & Innovations, Hon. Jayantha Samaraweera, State Minister of Environment, at the Ape Gama premises, Battaramulla, on 03rd Monday, February, 2020, at 9.00 am.
Annually, this ceremony is organized together by the Central Environment Authority and the Department of Wildlife Conservation and this year the ceremony was organized by the Central Environmental Authority. In this program issuing of 10 stamps depicting wetlands and endemic plants, awarding of prizes and certificates for the winners of the All Island Wetland Arts Competition, awarding of prizes and certificates for the winners of different events of the Wetland Environmental Camp as well as releases of the latest volume of the Sobaketha Magazine was carried out.
Under the guidance of Mr. S. Amarasinghe, Chairman, CEA and Mr. Hemantha Jayasinghe, Director General, CEA the Natural Resources Management Unit was organized this program.
