A special awareness program was held at the Maharagama Railway Station on 24.11.2019 for the purpose of renovating the Maharagama Railway Station, aware general public about the Dengue menace and the proper mangement of garbage. The event was held in collaboration with the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) and the National Development Bank (NDB) as a collective social responsibility (CSR) project to celebrate their 40th anniversary.
Isura Devapriya, Chairman, Central Environmental Authority, Mr. Sanjaya Perera, Senior Vice President National Development Bank (NDB), Mr. Gamini Jayasinghe, Deputy Director General of Environmental Education and Awareness Division, Central Environmental Authority, Doctor of Maharagama Health Services Office, Principal of Buwanekaba Vidyalaya, Maharagama, Doctors from National Dengue Prevention Unit, Mr. Chandima Alwis, Regional Manager, NDB, OIC, Environmental Police Unit, Maharagama, Station Master, Maharagama Railway Station, Mr. Dharshana Karunasiri, Branch Manager, NDB Maharagama, Mrs. Shyamani Periyapperuma, Director, Environmental Promotion Unit, CEA and officers representing CEA, NDB, Maharagama UC and Police Unit actively participated in the event.
During the upcoming festive season, a large number of people are visiting the Maharagama town and generating large amounts of non-degradable waste. Therefore, this program was implemented to get the contribution of the people to maintain the public places clean. In addition, mosquito repellent plants were distributed among the public of the area.
