Banned Polythene Raiding Continues………….

  • Manufacturing, trading and usage of any kind of polythene, polypropylene or any polythene related product having the thickness of 20 microns or less has been banned by the regulation published in the Gazettes Extra Ordinary No. 2034/33,34,35,36,37,38 dated 1st of September 2017. This rule is strictly continued from 1st of January 2018.
  • During the last week, the regional network of the Central Environmental Authority has been conducted a raiding program covering the whole Island. And it has been recognized that the majority of the business entities using Bio degradable plastic products.
  • Until now, 146 raids have been carried out and 10 of them have been seized by the Legal Unit of the CEA. Out of them two in Colombo District, 3 in Gampaha and 5 in the Northern Province has been identified as banned polythene producers.

Prof. Lal Mervin Dharmasiri, Chairman, CEA expressed that these raids will continue to be expanded and implemented in the future
