World GIS Day (Geographical Information System day) is celebrated around the world every year on the third Wednesday of the month of November. Official World GIS Day 2017 Celebrations was conducted in 15 November by ESRI, GIS Solutions with the collaboration of Survey Department of Sri Lanka
To create awareness about World GIS day 2017, GIS Solutions conducted a competition that involves to web based GIS mapping. This has been conducted as an island-wide competition titled ‘One Map Sri Lanka’ among the Professional GIS Users and GIS Technologists. There were many entries from all over Sri Lanka and most of them were of a very high standard GIS ArcGIS Technology users from all across the country.
The First Place Award of the Competition on Professional Category received by Dr. Ajith Gunawardena, Assistant Director, Research and Development Unit of Central Environmental Authority.
