Under the sponsorship of the United Nations Environmental Programme(UNEP),the Legal Unit of the CEA is organizing a South Asian Regional Meeting for Environmental Prosecutors on 22nd ,23rd and 25th June 2009

The main objectives of the Meeting are
To exchange views and experiences in successfully prosecuting those who violate environmental laws,
To evaluate criminal environmental enforcement in the South Asian Region and
To review the draft of the Environmental Prosecutors Guide that is being draft by a panel of Environmental Experts chaired by Mr.Jagath Gunawardane, a Senior Environmental Lawyer and an Environment Expert.
Draft of the Environmental Prosecutors Guide will be made available to the participants of the Regional Meeting for their review and finalization.
The Meeting is scheduled to be held at Hotel Galadari, Colombo on 4th ,5thand 6th and the representatives from India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Afganistan and Maldives are expected to participate.Several Resource Persons including the Resource Persons from UNEP and US AID will take part in the Meeting.
The Inaugural Session has been scheduled to start at 9a.m on 4th May 2009 under the gracious patronage of Hon.Patali Champika Ranawaka, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources of Sri Lanka.The Guest ofHonor will be the Hon.Attorney General of Sri Lanka.
