What is an Environmental Recommendation?

It is a conditional document /letter issued by the Central Environmental Authority with regards to the handling of possible environmental issues before the establishment of a prescribed activity/ industry at a specific location.

What are the industries which require to obtain an Environmental Recommendation from CEA?

Normally obtaining an ER for a prescribed activity/industry which is not subject to Environmental Impact Assessment is advisable. Obtaining an Environmental Recommendations from the CEA for a industry / project will enable the identification of the possible environmental impacts at the initial stages, in order to take mitigatory measures. This will help the industrialist to reduce the risk of public complaints at the operational stage. The likelihood of the EPL being refused for the industry at the operational stage is minimal for industries which have obtained a site clearance (Environmental Recommendation) at the siting stage.

How long will it take to obtain an Environmental Recommendation?

The ER. Will be issued within a one month period from the date of payment of the inspection fee.

What will be the validity period of issued ER?

The ER is valid for one year period from the date of issue and the validity period is indicated in the Environmental Recommendation.

Is it possible to extend the validity period of the ER. (If need)?
