Local Authorities |
|
| |
Local Authorities (for example, Municipal Councils, Urban Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas) have primary for investigating and resolving complaints about pollution and environmental protection matters in their functional areas under activities of "C" Category of Gazette Regulation No. 1533/16 where delegated powers to LAs under the National Environmental Act and responsibility for dealing with complaints about public health matters and also activities with regard to unauthorized activities. |

Issues within the remit of the Local Authority; Where you have made a complaint to a local authority on environmental issues, and the local authority fails to respond to your complaint and the environmental pollution problem persists, you should then contact the Commissioner of Local Government in the particular Province. Copies of all correspondence between yourself and the local authority should be submitted along with details of your complaint. |

How to Contact Central Environmental Authority? |

It is preferable to make your complaint to us in writing. Our address is Central Environmental Authority, No. 104, Robert Gunawardena Mawatha, Battaramulla. Complaints may also be informed to us on 2888999 submitted via our Hotline or by telephone to 2872263, 2872278,2872415. However, you are strongly encouraged to follow up any telephone complaint with the submission of a written complaint using the complaints form provided according to the instructions given the above, so that an effective and comprehensive investigation can be carried out. |

Please note that anonymous complaints are not encouraged. In many cases insufficient or vague details are supplied and the lack of complainant contact details makes effective investigation very difficult and sometimes impossible. Moreover, the lack of complainant details means that we, the CEA, cannot report back on our investigation to you. |

Pollution incidents and complaints about environmental pollution matters come under the CEA's purview, should be reported in the first instance to the relevant Provincial Office of the CEA in whose area the incident occurred. When you contact a Provincial Office, the matter will be investigated and informed you the action taken. |
