• The main objectives of this program are to identify the ambient water quality status of the water quality of selected water bodies.
  
  
• Establishment of base line water quality data for the proposed water bodies for future use.
  
  
• Prioritize the site with high degree of water quality impaired and dissemination of the relevant information to the appropriate authorizes to control and remediation through regulatory tool.
  
  
• Utilizing the monitoring data for designated uses (Drinking, Irrigation, Nature Conservation, Other uses) by considering the inland water quality standers for different use of classes proposed by the CEA.
  
  
• Dissemination of the information among relevant agencies for decision making.
